On April 15, 1999 through the efforts of the San Dieguito River Park and the Palomar Audubon Society, Lake Hodges was the first site in California to hold a ceremony formally recognizing it as a Globally Important Bird Area.
More Birds
Lake Hodges has a large number of threatened California Gnatcatchers that live throughout the 2,300 acres of coastal sage habitat. More than 200 avian species reside at or visit the lake each year. Thousands of migratory birds winter here.
Local Barn Owls
This is a series of photo's taken in the past three years of the Barn Owls who reside just a few feet from our living room window. We are honored to have them as close neighbors regardless of the fact that they are 'Very' chatty.
